Nuclear Core Reactor Overhead Crane

Working with specalist companies has accounted for a large bulk of our work over the years amd we have been involved in a number of nuclear and high security sites, such as BAE systems, Barrow-In-Furness (manufacturers of nuclear submarines) and British Nuclear Fuels. We were involves in the electrical installation of an overhead crane, at Winfirth Nuclear site, capable of rotating 360 deg. The crane was installed inside one of the nuclear reactors with the purpose of decommissioning the site. A similar project was carried out at BAE systems, where MMS carried out the electrical installation of another overhead crane, installed in a purpose build building that was to handle the core reactors used to power the nuclear submarines. The project lasted 6 weeks and was completed well within time and budget.

Wakefield College, Castleford

MMS supplied and installed all secondary containment, local isolation switches and suitably rated cables supplied from an over head three phase, neutral and earth bus bar system to over seventy machines of various sizes and loading. The machines were to be used by trainees and apprentices so safety and routing of cables was of paramount importance. We worked with the Estates section of the college ensuring the installation was carried out to their exact specification and design. The work was carried out over a two month period on time and within budget.
